Halloween Activities for Young Children

Celebrate the annual Fright Night with these sixteen fun (and not so scary) ideas, especially for young children.
1. Try your hand at face painting, or allow your children to paint their own faces with washable face paints.
2. Make your own goodie bags. Set out some brown paper bags with the standard art supplies or embellish an old pillowcase with fabric paints. You
can even spring for blank canvas baggies from your local discount store or craft store without spending a lot.
3. Tie dye some T shirts or socks using orange and black fabric dyes.
4. Make ghosts. Fold a piece of black construction paper in half and let your child squirt white paint inside. Squish the paint, let dry, then embellish the
white ghost with paints, markers and other craft supplies.
5. Watch a Halloween movie. Make popcorn, cuddle up together in blankets, and take in some spooky cinematic sights. Harry Potter, Dracula, or
Ghostbusters are great choices. For younger children, choose Heffalump Halloween, starring Winnie the Pooh or The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr.
Toad by Disney Classics.
6. Eat creepy cuisine. Cut sandwiches or tortillas into Halloween shapes with cookie cutters. Create a ghoulish look with almost anything by mixing in
a little green or red food coloring.
7. Play "Guess How Many Pumpkin Seeds." Each family member or party guest gets to take turns guessing how many pumpkin seeds are in a jar.
The winner gets a prize.
8. Go apple bobbing. Fill a bucket or tub with water and apples and see how many apples each contestant can snag.
9. Make masks. Set out the art supplies and see who can make the scariest mask with a paper plate, construction paper, yarn, and markers or paints.
10. Create a family costume. Come up with a costume theme that the whole family can participate in. One year, we were all Star Wars characters.
Maybe you will all be people from the Wild West or fuzzy forest animals.
11. Have a pumpkin seed spitting contest.
12. Roast pumpkin seeds. Clean the pumpkin seeds and toss them in just enough melted butter to lightly cover the seeds. (One tablespoon of butter
is generally enough for the seeds from a medium sized pumpkin.) Salt the seeds, then spread them on a baking sheet in a single layer. Bake at 250
degrees until golden brown, stirring occasionally.
13. Play Pin the Tail on the Black Cat (or Pin the Nose on the Pumpkin.) Any variation of Pin the Tail on the Donkey is fun for young kids.
14. Make a Scare Tape. Record you and your family members making spooky sounds. All you need is a tape recorder and a little imagination. Include
footsteps, slamming doors, creepy howling werewolves, and crazy cackles. Play the tape from your front porch on Halloween.
15. Give each child an inexpensive disposable camera for the big night. This is a fun way to see what Halloween looks like from their perspective. I
love to give my kids a blank journal and let them tell the story of memorable events, such as Halloween. This is a great tradition and really helps them
to tell their personal stories, which they will cherish for many Halloweens to come.
16. Once Halloween is over, make sure to shop the post Halloween sales for fun additions to your dress up closet, which your young children are sure
to enjoy year round.
Happy haunting!

costume sizing.
Popular items from the TV, Movies & Comics sections, feature interesting outfits like Batman, Elvis, Harry Potter, characters from Star Wars, Disney's
Pirates of the Caribbean, and comic book characters from DC or Marvel Comics such as Superman, Wonder Woman and Spiderman. If you are
looking to be a little more risqué this season, have a look at the adult's sexy costume section. There will be the perfect little number for those
scandalous playboy bunnies at heart. These also make great Valentine's or anniversary gifts for that special someone in your life.
A novelty that is becoming huge for online costume stores is that special item for your pet. Eccentric costumers can now purchase an outfit for their
dog or cat, and they get to choose from about a dozen different ones. Imagine trick or treating this year with Rover the super dog or Fluffy the pirate
cat. Now there's something you don't see every day.
All Halloween fans know costumes are not complete without accessories. These online masquerade shops contain quite a lot of accessories to top off
your costume. In the accessory section you'll find beards, wigs, jewelry, wings, horns, shoes, weapons, helmets, capes, robes, hats etc. In the
makeup section you can find all sorts of makeup kits, face colors, blood, fangs, prosthetics and other stuff you might need for the Halloween season.
The larger online costume shops will also have products for magicians and clowns, where they can find dozens of prop articles from lights, smoke
machines, puppets, magic hats, swindle card decks and some other stuff to put on a great show for children and adults alike.
Don't' miss out on the show stopping party decorations and supplies before checking out of the store. No party would be complete without a blood
feast of holiday napkins, balloons, themed plates, cups and utensils. You will also be able to pick up other fantastic items like glow in the dark
skeleton props, bats and spooky spider webs. So what are you waiting for, check out an online store for that perfect Halloween costume this season

Fun Kids Crafts For Halloween

15% off $75 or more plus Free Shipping* at BuyCostumes.com

Remember when we where in grade school the first "holiday" we came to was to do fun kids crafts for Halloween. Yeah we know its not really a holiday but we treated it as such. Back then are crafts were made of black, orange, and white construction paper. We usually used one color as a background and cut out characters of the other colors and glued them to it. The highlight was to put the finished pieces of art taped to the windows or the wall to let others view your masterpieces.

Today the crafts are a lot more fun than yesteryear. Pumpkin carving is actually done in school with of course adult supervision. Not only do they get to design their own pumpkin but they take out the seeds and dry them to have the makings for pumpkin seed math.

Small pumpkin painting is a lot cleaner than pumpkin carving believe it or not. You can use either real paints or washable color markers. Draw a design on your pumpkin and color it in. Once done line them up on a window sill or a classroom shelf.

Toilet paper mummies is a craft as well as a game. Basic rules are there two people to a team. One is the mummy wrapper and the other is the mummy. Object of the game is the mummy wrapper tries to wrap the mummy from head to toe or toe to head with the toilet paper. First team to accomplish this and use all their toilet paper is the winner.

More fun kids crafts for Halloween include pin the nose on the pumpkin. A concept of pin the tail on the donkey but used with a pumpkin.

Egg carton bats - cut the egg carton in sections of three cups. Paint the section entirely with black paint. Let dry and turn upside down and put a hole in the top of the middle cup. Put a piece of fishing line thru the top and tie to a washer. On the middle cup glue a pair of googly eyes and tie the bat to the curtain rod in the window. This will make your bat look like it is flying right inside your window.

Egg carton spiders - same thing as your egg carton bat but on the outside cups cut out legs for the spider.

An old all-time favorite is apple bobbing. For grade school kids use a shallow container like a cat litter box, but without the cat ingredients, with enough water to barely float an apple. The kids will live this.

For a new all-time favorite is spider leg lollipops. Hold four black pipe cleaners in your hand. Center them below the pop (my favorite is a tootsie roll pop), and wrap them around the stick one time. Bend the pipe cleaners in the middle at a 90 degree angle. Ben one-half inch at the end of the pipe cleaner at a 90 degree angle to make the feet. Last glue on some googly eyes and you are finished.

Teachers, teachers aides, room mothers, room fathers, brownies, cub scouts, girl and boy scout leaders, and camp leaders need to visit Fun Kids Crafts for hundreds of craft ideas.

Fun Craft Activities for Kids

15% off $75 or more plus Free Shipping* at BuyCostumes.com

Halloween is the time of year to have fun craft activities for kids. Grade schoolers look forward to this first "holiday" of the school year because of the neat things that they will get to create. Whether it be creating pictures, decorations, or little craft projects this will get their creative juices flowing.
Make A Mask - Take construction paper and make your best scary face. Cut out eyes and the mouth section so you can breathe and see. On the side of the mask put pieces of tape right where the ears will be. Take a single hole punch and put one hole on the tape, this will prevent the construction paper from tearing. Take two rubber bands and lace them together and draw tight. Now take the ends of the new formed rubber band and attach two paper clips. Last attach the two paper clips to the side of the mask where the tape hole is and there you have your mask.
Pin the Tail on the Black Cat - Draw a picture of a black cat on some cardboard. Put this on a stand and make a black cat tail of the same material. This idea follows the concept of pin the tail on the donkey. Blind fold the contestant and see how close they can get to pinning the tail on the black cat.
Making fun craft activities for kids at home can be just as fun. Have you ever made tombstones? Well, you start off with two inch thick pieces of styrofoam in four x eight foot sheets. Check out old timey tombstones and make a poster board pattern. Draw pattern on your styrofoam and cut out. Paint over the tombstone with grey paint and paint the epitaph with black paint or markers. Put the tombstones out in your "graveyard" by means of a support. Bricks, rocks, stakes, rebar, or any other means to hold the tombstone upright.
Toilet Paper Pumpkin - Take a roll of toilet tissue, wrap it in orange tissue paper, make a stem from brown construction paper and a leaf or two from green construction paper. Glue these two pieces to the top and there you have it.

Easy Halloween Kids Crafts

In order to make easy Halloween crafts for kids one only has to use their head. Do you remember when you were in the scouts or other group of friends and you use to make crafts for Halloween? In does not take a lot of money to accomplish this.
We would make them and take them home and hang them in the window or on the storm door. We would also tape them to windows around the house. The same thing applies today but we also tape these crafts to ceiling fans to make them look like they are flying or give off some mysterious colors.
Pop Ghost - To make a pop ghost you will use a piece of tissue paper. Preferred colors for Halloween would be black, orange, and white but, any color of tissue paper will add to the creativeness of the individual. Center the tissue paper over the pop and then tie off at the base of the pop, and there you have your pop ghost.
Paper Bag Creature Puppets - Cut out ears, eyes, lips, mouth, scars, stitches, beard, mustache, and hair from construction paper. Glue these to your paper bag to make your creature. You can also use yarn to make your beard, mustache, and hair. Put your creation on your hand and make creature sounds and move its mouth.
To make more easy Halloween crafts for kids you can use black, orange, and white construction paper. Black paper can be made into witches and cats. Orange paper can be made into pumpkins. White can be used to make ghost and mummies. Draw the picture on the paper and cut out. Tape to windows so they can be seen day or night.
Chalk pictures on black construction paper will stand out and you can tape these to your door at home. The black construction paper gives you the idea these adventures happen at night.
